This profession seems to have such a high proportion of people that are love every aspect of the car industry. Most other professions will have people that like cars and maybe even car people, but rarely do enthusiasts really show up. Heck, even actors and atheletes that ARE enthusiasts tend to be hilarious. Do great personalities just love cars more? Do cars and comedy just go together?

Because they specialize in the absurdities of life, and cars are most definitely absurd at their very core. Paraphrasing one of my favorite Seinfeld quotes, where else can you be moving and sitting still, inside and outside, all at the same time?

I would argue the fundamental idea of a comedian is someone who likes to have fun.
I would then also argue that cars are inherently fun when they’re moving. (Note: In a traffic jam a car is not moving)
So. Fun people like fun things.

No, money and cars go well together... Many movie stars love cars, CEOs, TV stars...etc etc. All the richer people I know personally are into cars. It comes with money. Taste in cars does not though, which is why I think comedians are the ones you notice. They are often smarter and more educated, with maybe more refined tastes in cars than your average soccer player :)

I think Flavian might be on to something. Most people are never exposed to nice cars, or consider it something that they “can’t afford” and once they get wealthy, they can finally try it.

I don’t think you are correct, I don’t think comedians are any more car enthusiasts than the rest of us.

I’d also add to your point that most of those people have had to work their asses off to get where they are. That was probably helped along by their love of cars. Kind of like a motivational tool where they thought, “if I work just that much harder then I can get that Ferrari/Porsche/Pagani/etc.

Because they hate people, so they prefer to spend time with machines?

Wow I had never really thought about it this way before but you’re so right. An appreciation for the absurd and small details are important for appreciating both comedy and cars.

because you have to have a sense of humor to be standing next to a car that only an enthusiast could love, while broken down on the side of the road, waiting for the flat bed, or trying to remember where you stashed the 11mm wrench.
